Genesis 4:8

• [Gen 4:8] When Adam Fell

  When Adam fell, he quickly lost God’s image, which he once possessed: See all our nature since could boast In Cain, his first-born son, expressed! The sacrifice the Lord ordained In type of the Redeemer’s blood, Self-righteous reasoning Cain disdained, And thought his own first-fruits as good. Yet rage and envy filled his mind, When, with a fallen, downcast look, He saw his brother favor find, Who God’s appointed method took. By Cain’s own hand, good Abel died, Because the Lord approved his faith; And, when his blood for vengeance cried, He vainly thought to hide his death. Such was the wicked murderer Cain, And such by nature still are we, Until by grace we’re born again, Malicious, blind and proud, as he. Like him the way of grace we slight, And in our own devices trust; Call evil good, and darkness light, And hate and persecute the just. The saints, in every age and place, Have found this history fulfilled; The numbers all our thoughts surpass Of Abels, whom the Cains have killed! Thus Jesus fell—but O! His blood Far better things than Abel’s cries: Obtains His murderers peace with God, And gains them mansions in the skies.

• [Psa 55:22] Cast Thy Burden On The Lord

  Cast thy burden on the Lord, Only lean upon His Word; Thou wilt soon have cause to bless His eternal faithfulness. He sustains thee by His hand, He enables thee to stand; Those whom Jesus once hath loved From His grace are never moved. Human counsels come to naught; That shall stand which God hath wrought; His compassion, love, and power, Are the same forevermore. Heav’n and earth may pass away, God’s free grace shall not decay; He hath promised to fulfill All the pleasure of His will. Jesus, Guardian of Thy flock, Be Thyself our constant Rock; Make us, by Thy powerful hand, Strong as Zion’s mountain stand.

• [Psa 55:22] I Will Tell It To Jesus My Lord

  When times of temptation bring sadness and gloom, I will tell it to Jesus my Lord; The last of earth’s treasures borne out to the tomb, I will tell it to Jesus my Lord. This earth hath no sorrow For today or tomorrow, But Jesus hath known it and felt long ago, And when it comes o’er me, And I’m tempted so sorely, I will tell it to Jesus my Lord.   If the world from you withhold of its silver and its gold, And you have to get along with meager fare, Just remember, in His Word, how He feeds the little bird; Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.   Lord, what a change within us one short hour Spent in Thy presence will prevail to make; What heavy burdens from our bosoms take, What parchèd fields refresh as with a shower! We kneel, and all around us seems to lower; We rise, and all, the distant and the near, Stands forth in sunny outline, brave and clear; We kneel, how weak; we rise, how full of power. Why should we ever weak or heartless be, Why are we ever overborne with care, Anxious or troubled, when with us is prayer, And joy, and strength, and courage are with Thee?

  Lord Jesus, Thou dost keep Thy child Through sunshine or through tempests wild; Jesus, I trust in Thee: Thine is such wondrous pow’r to save; Thine is the mighty love that gave Its all on Calvary.
