[14:14]  1 tn The singular participle is to be taken here as a collective, representing all the inhabitants of the land.

[14:14]  2 tn “Face to face” is literally “eye to eye.” It only occurs elsewhere in Isa 52:8. This expresses the closest communication possible.

[29:45]  3 tn The verb has the root שָׁכַן (shakan), from which came the word for the dwelling place, or sanctuary, itself (מִשְׁכָּן, mishkan). It is also used for the description of “the Shekinah glory.” God is affirming that he will reside in the midst of his people.

[68:17]  4 tn Heb “thousands of [?].” The meaning of the word שִׁנְאָן (shinan), which occurs only here in the OT, is uncertain. Perhaps the form should be emended to שַׁאֲנָן (shaanan, “at ease”) and be translated here “held in reserve.”

[68:17]  5 tc The MT reads, “the Lord [is] among them, Sinai, in holiness,” which is syntactically difficult. The present translation assumes an emendation to אֲדֹנָי בָּא מִסִּינַי (’adonay bamissinay; see BHS note b-b and Deut 33:2).
