[103:20]  1 tn Heb “[you] mighty ones of strength, doers of his word, by listening to the voice of his word.”

[103:21]  2 tn Heb “all his hosts.”

[103:21]  3 tn Heb “his attendants, doers of his desire.”

[148:2]  4 tn Or “heavenly messengers.”

[148:2]  5 tn Heb “all his host.”

[148:3]  6 tn Heb “stars of light.”

[148:4]  7 sn The “water” mentioned here corresponds to the “waters above” mentioned in Gen 1:7. See also Ps 104:3. For a discussion of the picture envisioned by the psalmist, see L. I. J. Stadelmann, The Hebrew Conception of the World, 47.

[40:26]  8 tn Heb “Lift on high your eyes and see.”

[40:26]  9 tn The words “heavenly lights” are supplied in the translation for clarification. See the following lines.

[40:26]  10 tn Heb “the one who brings out by number their host.” The stars are here likened to a huge army that the Lord leads out. Perhaps the next line pictures God calling roll. If so, the final line may be indicating that none of them dares “go AWOL.” (“AWOL” is a military acronym for “absent without leave.”)

[7:10]  11 tn Aram “were standing before him.”

[7:10]  12 tn Aram “judgment sat.”

[26:53]  13 sn A legion was a Roman army unit of about 6,000 soldiers, so twelve legions would be 72,000.

[5:11]  14 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

[5:11]  15 tn Grk “elders, and the number of them was.” Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

[5:11]  16 tn Or “myriads of myriads.” Although μυριάς (murias) literally means “10,000,” the point of the combination here may simply be to indicate an incalculably huge number. See L&N 60.9.
