for the Holy One of Israel 3  acts mightily 4  among you!”

Isaiah 26:21

Context

26:21 For look, the Lord is coming out of the place where he lives, 5

to punish the sin of those who live on the earth.

The earth will display the blood shed on it;

it will no longer cover up its slain. 6

Hosea 5:15

Hebrews 12:22-26

Context
12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion, the city 11  of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the assembly 12:23 and congregation of the firstborn, who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous, who have been made perfect, 12:24 and to Jesus, the mediator 12  of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks of something better than Abel’s does. 13

12:25 Take care not to refuse the one who is speaking! For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less shall we, if we reject the one who warns from heaven? 12:26 Then his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven too.” 14

[68:24]  1 tn The subject is probably indefinite, referring to bystanders in general who witness the procession.

[68:24]  2 tn The Hebrew text has simply “in holiness.” The words “who marches along” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[12:6]  3 sn See the note on the phrase “the Holy One of Israel” in 1:4.

[12:6]  4 tn Or “is great” (TEV). However, the context emphasizes his mighty acts of deliverance (cf. NCV), not some general or vague character quality.

[26:21]  5 tn Heb “out of his place” (so KJV, ASV).

[26:21]  6 sn This implies that rampant bloodshed is one of the reasons for divine judgment. See the note at 24:5.

[5:15]  7 tn The verb יֶאְשְׁמוּ (yeshÿmu, Qal imperfect 3rd person masculine plural from אָשַׁם, ’asham, “to be guilty”) means “to bear their punishment” (Ps 34:22-23; Prov 30:10; Isa 24:6; Jer 2:3; Hos 5:15; 10:2; 14:1; Zech 11:5; Ezek 6:6; BDB 79 s.v. אָשַׁם 3). Many English versions translate this as “admit their guilt” (NIV, NLT) or “acknowledge their guilt” (NASB, NRSV), but cf. NAB “pay for their guilt” and TEV “have suffered enough for their sins.”

[5:15]  8 tn Heb “seek my face” (so KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV); NAB “seek my presence.”

[2:20]  9 tn Or “holy temple.” The Lord’s heavenly palace, rather than the earthly temple, is probably in view here (see Ps 11:4; Mic 1:2-3). The Hebrew word ֹקדֶשׁ (qodesh, “holy”) here refers to the sovereign transcendence associated with his palace.

[2:20]  10 tn Or “Be quiet before him, all the earth!”

[12:22]  11 tn Grk “and the city”; the conjunction is omitted in translation since it seems to be functioning epexegetically – that is, explaining further what is meant by “Mount Zion.”

[12:24]  12 tn The Greek word μεσίτης (mesith", “mediator”) in this context does not imply that Jesus was a mediator in the contemporary sense of the word, i.e., he worked for compromise between opposing parties. Here the term describes his function as the one who was used by God to enact a new covenant which established a new relationship between God and his people, but entirely on God’s terms.

[12:24]  13 sn Abel’s shed blood cried out to the Lord for justice and judgment, but Jesus’ blood speaks of redemption and forgiveness, something better than Abel’s does (Gen 4:10; Heb 9:11-14; 11:4).

[12:26]  14 sn A quotation from Hag 2:6.
