biblegateway 1Co 6:12

"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything.

NASB ©

biblegateway 1Co 6:12

All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

NLT ©

biblegateway 1Co 6:12

You may say, "I am allowed to do anything." But I reply, "Not everything is good for you." And even though "I am allowed to do anything," I must not become a slave to anything.

MSG ©

biblegateway 1Co 6:12

Just because something is technically legal doesn't mean that it's spiritually appropriate. If I went around doing whatever I thought I could get by with, I'd be a slave to my whims.

BBE ©

SABDAweb 1Co 6:12

I am free to do all things; but not all things are wise. I am free to do all things; but I will not let myself come under the power of any.

NRSV ©

bibleoremus 1Co 6:12

"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are beneficial. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be dominated by anything.

NKJV ©

biblegateway 1Co 6:12

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

NETBible

“All things are lawful for me” 1  – but not everything is beneficial. “All things are lawful for me” – but I will not be controlled by anything.

NET Notes

sn All things are lawful for me. In the expressions in vv. 12-13 within quotation marks, Paul cites certain slogans the Corinthians apparently used to justify their behavior. Paul agrees with the slogans in part, but corrects them to show how the Corinthians have misused these ideas.
