12:8 Some of the Gadites joined David at the stronghold in the desert. They were warriors who were trained for battle; they carried shields and spears. They were as fierce as lions and could run as quickly as gazelles across the hills. 1
5:28 Their arrows are sharpened,
and all their bows are prepared. 2
The hooves of their horses are hard as flint, 3
and their chariot wheels are like a windstorm. 4
5:29 Their roar is like a lion’s;
they roar like young lions.
They growl and seize their prey;
they drag it away and no one can come to the rescue.
1 tn Heb “warriors, men of battle for war, prepared with shield and spear, and [like] the face of a lion were their faces, and like gazelles on the hills to hurry.”
2 tn Heb “bent” (so KJV, NAB, NASB, NRSV); NIV “are strung.”
3 tn Heb “regarded like flint.”
4 sn They are like a windstorm in their swift movement and in the way they kick up dust.
