1 Kings 5:7-8

5:7 When Hiram heard Solomon’s message, he was very happy. He said, “The Lord is worthy of praise today because he ¹  has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation.” 5:8 Hiram then sent this message to Solomon: “I received ²  the message you sent to me. I will give you all the cedars and evergreens you need. ³

7:45 and the pots, shovels, and bowls. All these items King Solomon assigned Hiram to make for the Lord’s temple ⁴  were made from polished bronze.

1 Kings 10:22

10:22 Along with Hiram’s fleet, the king had a fleet of large merchant ships ⁵  that sailed the sea. Once every three years the fleet ⁶  came into port with cargoes of ⁷  gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. ⁸

³ tn Heb “I will satisfy all your desire with respect to cedar wood and with respect to the wood of evergreens.”

⁴ tn Heb “a fleet of Tarshish [ships].” This probably refers to large ships either made in or capable of traveling to the distant western port of Tarshish.

⁵ tn Heb “the fleet of Tarshish [ships].”

⁶ tn Heb “came carrying.”

⁷ tn The meaning of this word is unclear. Some suggest “baboons.”
