9:25 Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings ¹  on the altar he had built for the Lord, burning incense along with them before the Lord. He made the temple his official worship place. ² 

1 Kings 10:12

10:12 With the timber the king made supports ³  for the Lord’s temple and for the royal palace and stringed instruments ⁴  for the musicians. No one has seen so much of this fine timber to this very day. ⁵ )

10:22 Along with Hiram’s fleet, the king had a fleet of large merchant ships ⁶  that sailed the sea. Once every three years the fleet ⁷  came into port with cargoes of ⁸  gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. ⁹

12:14 and followed ¹⁰  the advice of the younger ones. He said, “My father imposed heavy demands on you; I will make them even heavier. ¹¹  My father punished you with ordinary whips; I will punish you with whips that really sting your flesh.” ¹²

² tn Heb “and he made complete the house.”

³ tn This Hebrew architectural term occurs only here. The meaning is uncertain; some have suggested “banisters” or “parapets”; cf. TEV, NLT “railings.” The parallel passage in 2 Chr 9:11 has a different word, meaning “tracks,” or perhaps “steps.”

⁴ tn Two types of stringed instruments are specifically mentioned, the כִּנּוֹר (kinnor, “zither” [?]), and נֶבֶל (nevel, “harp”).

⁵ tn Heb “there has not come thus, the fine timber, and there has not been seen to this day.”

⁵ tn Heb “a fleet of Tarshish [ships].” This probably refers to large ships either made in or capable of traveling to the distant western port of Tarshish.
