1 Samuel 5:6

5:6 The Lord attacked 1  the residents of Ashdod severely, bringing devastation on them. He struck the people of 2  both Ashdod and the surrounding area with sores. 3 

1 Samuel 6:4

6:4 They inquired, “What is the guilt offering that we should send to him?”

They replied, “The Philistine leaders number five. So send five gold sores and five gold mice, for it is the same plague that has afflicted both you and your leaders.

Job 40:12

40:12 Look at every proud man and abase him;

crush the wicked on the spot! 4

2 tn The words “the people of” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

3 tc The LXX and Vulgate add the following: “And mice multiplied in their land, and the terror of death was throughout the entire city.”

4 tn The expression translated “on the spot” is the prepositional phrase תַּחְתָּם (takhtam, “under them”). “Under them” means in their place. But it can also mean “where someone stands, on the spot” (see Exod 16:29; Jos 6:5; Judg 7:21, etc.).
