1:11 God said to Solomon, “Because you desire this, 1  and did not ask for riches, wealth, and honor, or for vengeance on your enemies, 2  and because you did not ask for long life, 3  but requested wisdom and discernment so you can make judicial decisions for my people over whom I have made you king,

2 Chronicles 10:16

10:16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, “We have no portion in David – no share in the son of Jesse! 4  Return to your homes, O Israel! 5  Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!” 6  So all Israel returned to their homes. 7 

2 Chronicles 32:15

32:15 Now don’t let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you like this. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to rescue his people from my power or the power of my predecessors. So how 8  can your gods rescue 9  you from my power?’”

2 Chronicles 35:3

35:3 He told the Levites, who instructed all Israel about things consecrated to the Lord, “Place the holy ark in the temple which King Solomon son of David of Israel built. Don’t carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel!

1 tn Heb “because this was in your heart.”

2 tn Heb “the life of those who hate you.”

4 sn The people’s point seems to be that they have no familial relationship with David that brings them any benefits or places upon them any obligations. They are being treated like outsiders.

5 tn Heb “each one to your tents, Israel.” The word “return” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

6 tn Heb “Now see your house, David.”

7 tn Heb “went to their tents.”

7 tn Heb “how much less.”

8 tn The verb is plural, suggesting that the preceding אֱלֹהֵיכֶם (’elohekhem) be translated “your gods,” rather than “your God.”
