2 Chronicles 10:9

10:9 He asked them, “How do you advise me to respond to these people who said to me, ‘Lessen the demands your father placed on us’?” ¹ 

2 Chronicles 20:9

20:9 ‘If disaster comes on us in the form of military attack, ²  judgment, plague, or famine, we will stand in front of this temple before you, for you are present in this temple. ³  We will cry out to you for help in our distress, so that you will ⁴  hear and deliver us.’

2 Chronicles 20:12

20:12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we are powerless against this huge army that attacks us! We don’t know what we should do; we look to you for help.” ⁵ 

2 Chronicles 28:13

28:13 They said to them, “Don’t bring those captives here! Are you planning on making us even more sinful and guilty before the Lord? ⁶  Our guilt is already great and the Lord is very angry at Israel.” ⁷ 

¹ tn Heb “Lighten the yoke which your father placed on us.”

² tn Heb “sword.”

³ tn Heb “for your name is in this house.” The “name” of the Lord sometimes designates the Lord himself, being indistinguishable from the proper name. In this case the temple is referred to as a “house” where the Lord himself can reside.

⁴ tn Or “so that you may.”

³ tn Heb “for [or “indeed”] upon you are our eyes.”

⁴ tn Heb “for to the guilt of the Lord upon us you are saying to add to our sins and our guilty deeds.”

⁵ tn Heb “for great is [the] guilt to us and rage of anger is upon Israel.”
