2 Chronicles 11:15

11:15 Jeroboam ¹  appointed his own priests to serve at the worship centers ²  and to lead in the worship of the goat idols and calf idols he had made. ³ 

2 Chronicles 11:1

11:1 When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he summoned 180,000 skilled warriors from Judah and Benjamin ⁴  to attack Israel and restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.

2 Chronicles 12:1

12:1 After Rehoboam’s rule was established and solidified, he and all Israel rejected the law of the Lord.

2 Chronicles 14:9

14:9 Zerah the Cushite marched against them with an army of 1,000,000 ⁵  men and 300 chariots. He arrived at Mareshah,

Hosea 8:5-6

8:5 O Samaria, he has rejected your calf idol!

My anger burns against them!

They will not survive much longer without being punished, ⁶ 

even though they are Israelites!

8:6 That idol was made by a workman – it is not God!

The calf idol of Samaria will be broken to bits.

⁶ tn Heb “How long will they be able to be free from punishment?” This rhetorical question affirms that Israel will not survive much longer until God punishes it.
