2 Chronicles 11:23

11:23 He wisely placed some of his many sons throughout the regions of Judah and Benjamin in the various fortified cities. ¹  He supplied them with abundant provisions and acquired many wives for them. ² 

2 Chronicles 20:2

20:2 Messengers ³  arrived and reported to Jehoshaphat, “A huge army is attacking you from the other side of the Dead Sea, ⁴  from the direction of Edom. ⁵  Look, they are in Hazezon Tamar (that is, En Gedi).”

2 Chronicles 20:24

20:24 When the men of Judah ⁶  arrived at the observation post overlooking the desert and looked at ⁷  the huge army, they saw dead bodies on the ground; there were no survivors!

2 Chronicles 32:7

32:7 “Be strong and brave! Don’t be afraid and don’t panic ⁸  because of the king of Assyria and this huge army that is with him! We have with us one who is stronger than those who are with him. ⁹

³ tn Heb “they”; the implied referent (messengers) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

⁴ tn Heb “the Sea”; in context (“from the direction of Edom”) this must refer to the Dead Sea, which has been specified in the translation for clarity (cf. NEB, NLT).

⁵ tc Most Hebrew mss read “from Aram” (i.e., Syria), but this must be a corruption of “Edom,” which is the reading of the LXX and Vulgate.

⁵ tn Heb “Judah.” The words “the men of” are supplied in the translation for clarity. The Hebrew text uses the name “Judah” by metonymy for the men of Judah.

⁶ tn Heb “turned toward.”
