32:36 The Lord will judge his people,
and will change his plans concerning 2 his servants;
when he sees that their power has disappeared,
and that no one is left, whether confined or set free.
40:29 He gives strength to those who are tired;
to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy.
40:30 Even youths get tired and weary;
even strong young men clumsily stumble. 3
40:31 But those who wait for the Lord’s help 4 find renewed strength;
they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings, 5
they run without growing weary,
they walk without getting tired.
1 tn Heb “for [or “indeed”] upon you are our eyes.”
2 tn The translation understands the verb in the sense of “be grieved, relent” (cf. HALOT 689 s.v. נחם hitp 2); cf. KJV, ASV “repent himself”; NLT “will change his mind.” Another option is to translate “will show compassion to” (see BDB 637 s.v. נחם); cf. NASB, NIV, NRSV.
3 tn Heb “stumbling they stumble.” The verbal idea is emphasized by the infinitive absolute.
4 tn The words “for the Lord’s help” are supplied in the translation for clarification.
5 tn Heb “they rise up [on] wings like eagles” (TEV similar).
