28:6 In one day King Pekah son of Remaliah of Israel killed 120,000 warriors in Judah, because they had abandoned the Lord God of their ancestors.¹

22:1 The residents of Jerusalem⁶ made his youngest son Ahaziah king in his place, for the raiding party that invaded the city with the Arabs had killed all the older sons.⁷ So Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.

Isaiah 37:2-4

37:2 Eliakim the palace supervisor, Shebna the scribe, and the leading priests,⁸ clothed in sackcloth, sent this message to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz: 37:3 “This is what Hezekiah says:⁹ ‘This is a day of distress, insults,¹⁰ and humiliation,¹¹ as when a baby is ready to leave the birth canal, but the mother lacks the strength to push it through.¹² 37:4 Perhaps the Lord your God will hear all these things the chief adviser has spoken on behalf of his master, the king of Assyria, who sent him to taunt the living God.¹³ When the Lord your God hears, perhaps he will punish him for the things he has said.¹⁴ So pray for this remnant that remains.’”¹⁵

Jeremiah 42:2

42:2 They said to him, “Please grant our request¹⁶ and pray to the Lord your God for all those of us who are still left alive here.¹⁷ For, as you yourself can see, there are only a few of us left out of the many there were before.¹⁸
