2 Chronicles 36:13
36:13 He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him vow allegiance
1 in the name of God. He was stubborn and obstinate, and refused to return
2 to the
Lord God of Israel.
Jeremiah 5:2
5:2 These people make promises in the name of the Lord. 3
But the fact is, 4 what they swear to is really a lie.” 5
1 tn Or “made him swear an oath.”
2 tn Heb “and he stiffened his neck and strengthened his heart from returning.”
3 tn Heb “Though they say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives.” The idea of “swear on oath” comes from the second line.
4 tc The translation follows many Hebrew mss and the Syriac version in reading “surely” (אָכֵן, ’akhen) instead of “therefore” (לָכֵן, lakhen) in the MT.
5 tn Heb “they swear falsely.”
