2:4 Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” ¹  But he replied, “As certainly as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.

2 Kings 7:10

7:10 So they went and called out to the gatekeepers ²  of the city. They told them, “We entered the Syrian camp and there was no one there. We didn’t even hear a man’s voice. ³  But the horses and donkeys are still tied up, and the tents remain up.” ⁴ 

2 Kings 10:24

10:24 They went inside to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside. He had told them, “If any of the men inside get away, you will pay with your lives!” ⁵ 

2 Kings 11:9

11:9 The officers of the units of hundreds did just as ⁶  Jehoiada the priest ordered. Each of them took his men, those who were on duty during the Sabbath as well as those who were off duty on the Sabbath, and reported ⁷  to Jehoiada the priest.

2 Kings 11:18

11:18 All the people of the land went and demolished ⁸  the temple of Baal. They smashed its altars and idols ⁹  to bits. ¹⁰  They killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altar. Jehoiada the priest ¹¹  then placed guards at the Lord’s temple.

2 Kings 14:13

14:13 King Jehoash of Israel captured King Amaziah of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, in Beth Shemesh. He ¹²  attacked ¹³  Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate – a distance of about six hundred feet. ¹⁴

² tn The MT has a singular form (“gatekeeper”), but the context suggests a plural. The pronoun that follows (“them”) is plural and a plural noun appears in v. 11. The Syriac Peshitta and the Targum have the plural here.

⁶ tc The MT has the plural form of the verb, but the final vav (ו) is virtually dittographic. The word that immediately follows in the Hebrew text begins with a yod (י). The form should be emended to the singular, which is consistent in number with the verb (“he broke down”) that follows.
