2 Kings 25:24

25:24 Gedaliah took an oath so as to give them and their troops some assurance of safety. ²  He said, “You don’t need to be afraid to submit to the Babylonian officials. Settle down in the land and submit to the king of Babylon. Then things will go well for you.”

2 Kings 11:18

11:18 All the people of the land went and demolished ³  the temple of Baal. They smashed its altars and idols ⁴  to bits. ⁵  They killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altar. Jehoiada the priest ⁶  then placed guards at the Lord’s temple.

¹ tn Heb “she fixed her eyes with antimony.” Antimony (פּוּךְ, pukh) was used as a cosmetic. The narrator portrays her as a prostitute (see Jer 4:30), a role she has played in the spiritual realm (see the note at v. 22).
