2 Timothy 1:13

2 Timothy 1:15

1:15 You know that everyone in the province of Asia ³  deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

2 Timothy 2:15

2:15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately. ⁴ 

2 Timothy 2:25

2:25 correcting ⁵  opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance and then knowledge of the truth ⁶

² tn Grk “in faith and love in Christ Jesus.”

³ tn Grk “Asia”; in the NT this always refers to the Roman province of Asia, made up of about one-third of the west and southwest end of modern Asia Minor. Asia lay to the west of the region of Phrygia and Galatia. The words “the province of” are supplied to indicate to the modern reader that this does not refer to the continent of Asia.

⁵ sn Accurately is a figure of speech that literally means something like “cutting a straight road.” In regard to the message of truth, it means “correctly handling” or “imparting it without deviation.”

⁷ sn Correcting is the word for “child-training” or “discipline.” It is often positive (training, educating) but here denotes the negative side (correcting, disciplining).

⁸ tn Grk “repentance unto knowledge of the truth.”
