63:10 But they rebelled and offended 6 his holy Spirit, 7
so he turned into an enemy
and fought against them.
1 tn Grk “and.” The context, however, indicates that the conjunction carries an adversative force.
2 sn They were not able to resist. This represents another fulfillment of Luke 12:11-12; 21:15.
3 tn The Hebrew expression here is elliptical. The words “your kindness” are not included in the Hebrew text, but have been supplied in the translation for clarity.
4 tn Heb “did not give ear to.”
5 tn Heb “the peoples of the lands.”
6 tn Or “grieved, hurt the feelings of.”
7 sn The phrase “holy Spirit” occurs in the OT only here (in v. 11 as well) and in Ps 51:11 (51:13 HT), where it is associated with the divine presence.
