Daniel 1:15

1:15 At the end of the ten days their appearance was better and their bodies were healthier ¹  than all the young men who had been eating the royal delicacies.

Daniel 1:20

1:20 In every matter of wisdom and ²  insight the king asked them about, he found them to be ten times ³  better than any of the magicians and astrologers that were in his entire empire.

Daniel 5:8

5:8 So all the king’s wise men came in, but they were unable to read the writing or to make known its ⁴  interpretation to the king.

6:5 So these men concluded, ⁵  “We won’t find any pretext against this man Daniel unless it is ⁶  in connection with the law of his God.”

Daniel 9:6

9:6 We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority ¹⁰  to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, ¹¹  and to all the inhabitants ¹²  of the land as well.

Daniel 9:14

9:14 The LORD was mindful of the calamity, and he brought it on us. For the LORD our God is just ¹³  in all he has done, ¹⁴  and we have not obeyed him. ¹⁵ 

¹ tn Heb “fat of flesh”; KJV, ASV “fatter in flesh”; NASB, NRSV “fatter” (although this is no longer a sign of health in Western culture).

² tc The MT lacks the conjunction, reading the first word in the phrase as a construct (“wisdom of insight”). While this reading is not impossible, it seems better to follow Theodotion, the Syriac, the Vulgate, and the Sahidic Coptic, all of which have the conjunction.

³ tn Heb “hands.”

³ tc Read וּפִשְׁרֵהּ (ufishreh) with the Qere rather than וּפִשְׁרָא (ufishra’) of the Kethib.
