Daniel 5:20

5:20 And when his mind ¹  became arrogant ²  and his spirit filled with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and his honor was removed from him.

Daniel 11:12

11:12 When the army is taken away, the king of the south will become arrogant. ³  He will be responsible for the death ⁴  of thousands and thousands of people, ⁵  but he will not continue to prevail.

¹ tn Aram “heart.”

² sn The point of describing Nebuchadnezzar as arrogant is that he had usurped divine prerogatives, and because of his immense arrogance God had dealt decisively with him.

³ tn Heb “his heart will be lifted up.” The referent (the king of the south) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

⁴ tn Heb “cause to fall.”

⁵ tn Heb “of myriads.”
