15:6 Your own mouth condemns 1 you, not I;
your own lips testify against 2 you.
1 tn The Hiphil of this root means “declare wicked, guilty” (a declarative Hiphil), and so “condemns.”
2 tn The verb עָנָה (’anah) with the ל (lamed) preposition following it means “to testify against.” For Eliphaz, it is enough to listen to Job to condemn him.
3 tn Grk “He”; the referent (the nobleman of v. 12, now a king) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
4 tn Grk “out of your own mouth” (an idiom).
5 tn Note the contrast between this slave, described as “wicked,” and the slave in v. 17, described as “good.”
6 tn Or “exacting,” “harsh,” “hard.”
