1:20 Then I said to you, “You have come to the Amorite hill country which the Lord our God is about to give ¹  us.

16:17 Every one of you must give as you are able, ³  according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you.

Deuteronomy 19:2

19:2 you must set apart for yourselves three cities ⁴  in the middle of your land that the Lord your God is giving you as a possession.

¹ tn The Hebrew participle has an imminent future sense here, although many English versions treat it as a present tense (“is giving us,” NAB, NIV, NRSV) or a predictive future (“will give us,” NCV).

² tn Heb “gates.”

³ tn Heb “a man must give according to the gift of his hand.” This has been translated as second person for stylistic reasons, in keeping with the second half of the verse, which is second person rather than third.

⁴ sn These three cities, later designated by Joshua, were Kedesh of Galilee, Shechem, and Hebron (Josh 20:7-9).
