Deuteronomy 17:16

17:16 Moreover, he must not accumulate horses for himself or allow the people to return to Egypt to do so, for the Lord has said you must never again return that way.

Deuteronomy 24:4

24:4 her first husband who divorced her is not permitted to remarry her after she has become ritually impure, for that is offensive to the Lord. You must not bring guilt on the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

tn Heb “in order to multiply horses.” The translation uses “do so” in place of “multiply horses” to avoid redundancy (cf. NAB, NIV).

tn Heb “to return to take her to be his wife.”

sn The issue here is not divorce and its grounds per se but prohibition of remarriage to a mate whom one has previously divorced.

tn Heb “cause the land to sin” (so KJV, ASV).
