Deuteronomy 25:2

25:2 Then, ¹  if the guilty person is sentenced to a beating, ²  the judge shall force him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with the number of blows his wicked behavior deserves. ³ 

Deuteronomy 15:8

15:8 Instead, you must be sure to open your hand to him and generously lend ⁴  him whatever he needs. ⁵

⁴ tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute before both verbs. The translation indicates the emphasis with the words “be sure to” and “generously,” respectively.

⁵ tn Heb “whatever his need that he needs for himself.” This redundant expression has been simplified in the translation for stylistic reasons.
