6:20 When your children ¹  ask you later on, “What are the stipulations, statutes, and ordinances that the Lord our God commanded you?”

Deuteronomy 25:6

25:6 Then ²  the first son ³  she bears will continue the name of the dead brother, thus preventing his name from being blotted out of Israel.

Deuteronomy 33:24

Blessing on Asher

33:24 Of Asher he said:

Asher is blessed with children,

may he be favored by his brothers

and may he dip his foot in olive oil. ⁴ 

¹ tn Heb “your son.”

² tn Heb “and it will be that.”

³ tn Heb “the firstborn.” This refers to the oldest male child.

³ sn Dip his foot in olive oil. This is a metaphor for prosperity, one especially apt in light of the abundance of olive groves in the area settled by Asher. The Hebrew term refers to olive oil, which symbolizes blessing in the OT. See R. Way, NIDOTTE 4:171-73.
