Ephesians 4:18
4:18 They are darkened in their understanding,
1 being alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts.
Ezra 4:3
4:3 But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the leaders of Israel said to them, “You have no right
2 to help us build the temple of our God. We will build it by ourselves for the
Lord God of Israel, just as King Cyrus, the king of Persia, has commanded us.”
Isaiah 61:5
61:5 3 “Foreigners will take care of 4 your sheep;
foreigners will work in your fields and vineyards.
Ezekiel 13:9
13:9 My hand will be against the prophets who see delusion and announce lying omens. They will not be included in the council
5 of my people, nor be written in the registry
6 of the house of Israel, nor enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the sovereign
Lord.
Hebrews 11:34
11:34 quenched raging fire,
7 escaped the edge of the sword, gained strength in weakness,
8 became mighty in battle, put foreign armies to flight,
1 tn In the Greek text this clause is actually subordinate to περιπατεῖ (peripatei) in v. 17. It was broken up in the English translation so as to avoid an unnecessarily long and cumbersome statement.
2 tn Heb “not to you and to us.”
3 sn The Lord speaks in vv. 7-8 (and possibly v. 9). It is not clear where the servant’s speech (see vv. 1-3a) ends and the Lord’s begins. Perhaps the direct address to the people signals the beginning of the Lord’s speech.
4 tn Heb “will stand [in position] and shepherd.”
5 tn The Hebrew term may refer to the secret council of the Lord (Jer 23:18; Job 15:8), but here it more likely refers to a human council comprised of civic leaders (Gen 49:6; Jer 6:11; 15:17 Ps 64:3; 111:1).
6 tn The reference here is probably to a civil list (as in Ezra 2:16; Neh 7:64) rather than to a “book of life” (Exod 32:32; Isa 4:3; Ps 69:29; Dan 12:1). This registry may have been established at the making of David’s census (2 Sam 24:2, 9).
7 tn Grk “quenched the power of fire.”
8 tn Or “recovered from sickness.”
