16:20 But they did not listen to Moses; some ¹  kept part of it until morning, and it was full ²  of worms and began to stink, and Moses was angry with them.

Exodus 28:10

28:10 six ³  of their names on one stone, and the six remaining names on the second stone, according to the order of their birth. ⁴ 

¹ tn Heb “men”; this usage is designed to mean “some” (see GKC 447 §138.h, n. 1).

² tn The verb וַיָּרֻם (vayyarum) is equivalent to a passive – “it was changed” – to which “worms” is added as an accusative of result (GKC 388-89 §121.d, n. 2).

³ tn This is in apposition to the direct object of the verb “engrave.” It further defines how the names were to be engraved – six on one and the other six on the other.

⁴ tn Heb “according to their begettings” (the major word in the book of Genesis). What is meant is that the names would be listed in the order of their ages.
