4:17 You will also take in your hand this staff, with which you will do the signs.” ¹ 

Exodus 4:28

4:28 Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had ²  sent him and all the signs that he had commanded him.

Exodus 4:30

4:30 Aaron spoke ³  all the words that the Lord had spoken to Moses and did the signs in the sight of the people,

¹ sn Mention of the staff makes an appropriate ending to the section, for God’s power (represented by the staff) will work through Moses. The applicable point that this whole section is making could be worded this way: The servants of God who sense their inadequacy must demonstrate the power of God as their sufficiency.

² tn This verb and the last one in the verse are rendered with the past perfect nuance because they refer to what the Lord had done prior to Moses’ telling Aaron.
