8:6 He said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing – the great abominations that the people 3 of Israel are practicing here, to drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see greater abominations than these!”
8:12 He said to me, “Do you see, son of man, what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in the chamber of his idolatrous images? 4 For they think, ‘The Lord does not see us! The Lord has abandoned the land!’”
1 tn See Ezek 1:4.
2 tc The LXX lacks this phrase. Its absence from the LXX may be explained as a case of haplography resulting from homoioteleuton, skipping from כְּמַרְאֵה (kÿmar’eh) to מִמַּרְאֵה (mimmar’eh). On the other hand, the LXX presents a much more balanced verse structure when it is recognized that the final words of this verse belong in the next sentence.
3 tn Heb “house.”
5 tn Heb “the room of his images.” The adjective “idolatrous” has been supplied in the translation for clarity.
7 sn The book of Ezekiel frequently refers to the Israelites as a rebellious house (Ezek 2:5, 6, 8; 3:9, 26-27; 12:2-3, 9, 25; 17:12; 24:3).
8 sn This verse is very similar to Isa 6:9-10.
