1 tn Heb “Look! The princes of Israel, each according to his arm, were in you in order to shed blood.”
2 sn The contrast is with the simpleton and the shrewd. The simpleton is the young person who is untrained morally or intellectually, and therefore gullible. The shrewd one is the prudent person, the one who has the ability to make critical discriminations.
3 tn Heb “his step”; cf. TEV “sensible people watch their step.”
4 tn Or “is giving you false assurances.”
5 tn Heb “And where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you or against this land?’” The indirect quote has been used in the translation because of its simpler, more direct style.
