16:14 Your fame 1  spread among the nations because of your beauty; your beauty was perfect because of the splendor which I bestowed on you, declares the sovereign Lord. 2

27:3 Say to Tyre, who sits at the entrance 3  of the sea, 4  merchant to the peoples on many coasts, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says:

Ezekiel 28:12

28:12 “Son of man, sing 5  a lament for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says:

“‘You were the sealer 6  of perfection,

2 sn The description of the nation Israel in vv. 10-14 recalls the splendor of the nation’s golden age under King Solomon.

3 tn Heb “entrances.” The plural noun may reflect the fact that Tyre had two main harbors.

4 sn Rome, another economic power, is described in a similar way in Rev 17:1.

5 tn Heb “lift up.”
