Ezekiel 22:7

22:7 They have treated father and mother with contempt ¹  within you; they have oppressed the foreigner among you; they have wronged the orphan and the widow ²  within you.

Ezekiel 18:7

18:7 does not oppress anyone, but gives the debtor back whatever was given in pledge, ³  does not commit robbery, ⁴  but gives his bread to the hungry and clothes the naked,

Ezekiel 18:12

18:12 oppresses the poor and the needy, ⁵  commits robbery, does not give back what was given in pledge, prays to ⁶  idols, performs abominable acts,

18:16 does not oppress anyone or keep what has been given in pledge, does not commit robbery, gives his food to the hungry, and clothes the naked,

Ezekiel 22:29

22:29 The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have wronged the poor and needy; they have oppressed the foreigner who lives among them and denied them justice. ⁷ 

Ezekiel 45:8

45:8 of the land. This will be his property in Israel. My princes will no longer oppress my people, but the land will be allotted to the house of Israel according to their tribes.

Ezekiel 46:18

46:18 The prince will not take away any of the people’s inheritance by oppressively removing them from their property. He will give his sons an inheritance from his own possessions so that my people will not be scattered, each from his own property.’”

¹ tn Heb “treated lightly, cursed.”

² tn Widows and orphans are often coupled together in the OT (Deut 14:29; 16:11, 14; 24:19-21; 26:12-13; Jer 7:6; 22:3). They represented all who were poor and vulnerable to economic exploitation.

³ tn Heb “restores to the debtor his pledge.” The root occurs in Exod 22:25 in reference to restoring a man’s garment as a pledge before nightfall.

⁴ tn The Hebrew term refers to seizure of property, usually by the rich (Isa 3:14; 10:2; Mic 2:2 [see Lev 5:21, 22]).

⁵ sn The poor and needy are often mentioned together in the OT (Deut 24:14; Jer 22:16; Ezek 14:69; Ps 12:6; 35:10; 37:14).

⁶ tn Heb “lifts up his eyes.”

⁷ tn Heb “and the foreigner they have oppressed without justice.”
