1:10 God called the dry ground “land” ¹  and the gathered waters he called “seas.” God saw that it was good.

Acts 8:2

¹ tn Heb “earth,” but here the term refers to the dry ground as opposed to the sea.

² tn Or “western” (so NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV); Heb “latter,” a reference to the Mediterranean Sea (cf. NCV, TEV, CEV, NLT).

³ tn Or “the Wadi Eshcol” (so NAB).

⁴ tn The Hebrew text includes “in their hand,” which is unnecessary and somewhat redundant in English style.

⁵ tn “Some” is not in the Greek text, but is implied.

⁶ sn Made loud lamentation. For someone who was stoned to death, lamentation was normally not allowed (m. Sanhedrin 6:6). The remark points to an unjust death.

⁷ tn Or “mourned greatly for him.”
