Dinah and the Shechemites

34:1 Now Dinah, Leah’s daughter whom she bore to Jacob, went to meet ¹  the young women ²  of the land.

Genesis 29:24

29:24 (Laban gave his female servant Zilpah to his daughter Leah to be her servant.) ³ 

Genesis 29:29

29:29 (Laban gave his female servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel to be her servant.) ⁴ 

¹ tn Heb “went out to see.” The verb “to see,” followed by the preposition בְּ (bÿ), here has the idea of “look over.” The young girl wanted to meet these women and see what they were like.

² tn Heb “daughters.”

³ tn Heb “and Laban gave to her Zilpah his female servant, to Leah his daughter [for] a servant.” This clause gives information parenthetical to the narrative.

⁵ tn Heb “and Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his female servant, for her for a servant.”
