Genesis 45:22

45:22 He gave sets of clothes to each one of them, ¹  but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five sets of clothes. ²

41:14 Then Pharaoh summoned ⁶  Joseph. So they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; he shaved himself, changed his clothes, and came before Pharaoh.

Genesis 9:23

9:23 Shem and Japheth took the garment ⁷  and placed it on their shoulders. Then they walked in backwards and covered up their father’s nakedness. Their faces were turned ⁸  the other way so they did not see their father’s nakedness.

⁶ sn The actions of removing false gods, becoming ritually clean, and changing garments would become necessary steps in Israel when approaching the Lord in worship.

⁷ tn Heb “and Pharaoh sent and called,” indicating a summons to the royal court.

⁹ tn The word translated “garment” has the Hebrew definite article on it. The article may simply indicate that the garment is definite and vivid in the mind of the narrator, but it could refer instead to Noah’s garment. Did Ham bring it out when he told his brothers?
