Genesis 7:12

7:12 And the rain fell ¹  on the earth forty days and forty nights.

Genesis 7:24

7:24 The waters prevailed over ²  the earth for 150 days.

Genesis 8:14

8:14 And by the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth ³  was dry.

Genesis 27:2

27:2 Isaac ⁴  said, “Since ⁵  I am so old, I could die at any time. ⁶ 

¹ tn Heb “was.”

² sn The Hebrew verb translated “prevailed over” suggests that the waters were stronger than the earth. The earth and everything in it were no match for the return of the chaotic deep.

³ tn In v. 13 the ground (הָאֲדָמָה, ha’adamah) is dry; now the earth (הָאָרֶץ, ha’arets) is dry.

⁴ tn Heb “he”; the referent (Isaac) is specified in the translation for clarity.

⁵ tn The particle הִנֵּה (hinneh, “look”) here introduces a logically foundational statement, upon which the coming instruction will be based.

⁶ tn Heb “I do not know the day of my death.”
