Hebrews 7:5

7:5 And those of the sons of Levi who receive the priestly office ⁴  have authorization according to the law to collect a tithe from the people, that is, from their fellow countrymen, ⁵  although they too are descendants of Abraham. ⁶ 

¹ sn There is a wordplay in the Greek text between the verbs “learned” (ἔμαθεν, emaqen) and “suffered” (ἔπαθεν, epaqen).

³ tn Grk “it,” referring either to the repentance or the blessing. But the account in Gen 27:34-41 (which the author appeals to here) makes it clear that the blessing is what Esau sought. Thus in the translation the referent (the blessing) is specified for clarity.
