Isaiah 14:8

14:8 The evergreens also rejoice over your demise,

as do the cedars of Lebanon, singing,

‘Since you fell asleep,

no woodsman comes up to chop us down!’

Isaiah 3:9

3:9 The look on their faces testifies to their guilt;

like the people of Sodom they openly boast of their sin.

Too bad for them!

For they bring disaster on themselves.

tn Heb “concerning you.”

tn The word “singing” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons. Note that the personified trees speak in the second half of the verse.

tn Heb “the [wood]cutter does not come up against us.”

sn This refers to their proud, arrogant demeanor.

tn Heb “their sin, like Sodom, they declare, they do not conceal [it].”

tn Heb “woe to their soul.”
