Isaiah 2:3

2:3 many peoples will come and say,

“Come, let us go up to the Lord’s mountain,

to the temple of the God of Jacob,

so he can teach us his requirements,

and we can follow his standards.”

For Zion will be the center for moral instruction;

the Lord will issue edicts from Jerusalem.

Isaiah 42:22

42:22 But these people are looted and plundered;

all of them are trapped in pits

and held captive in prisons.

They were carried away as loot with no one to rescue them;

they were carried away as plunder, and no one says, “Bring that back!”

Isaiah 43:9

43:9 All nations gather together,

the peoples assemble.

Who among them announced this?

Who predicted earlier events for us? 10

Let them produce their witnesses to testify they were right;

let them listen and affirm, ‘It is true.’

Isaiah 54:17

54:17 No weapon forged to be used against you will succeed;

you will refute everyone who tries to accuse you. 11

This is what the Lord will do for his servants –

I will vindicate them,” 12

says the Lord.

Isaiah 65:16

65:16 Whoever pronounces a blessing in the earth 13

will do so in the name of the faithful God; 14

whoever makes an oath in the earth

will do so in the name of the faithful God. 15

For past problems will be forgotten;

I will no longer think about them. 16

tn The prefixed verb form with simple vav (ו) introduces a purpose/result clause after the preceding prefixed verb form (probably to be taken as a cohortative; see IBHS 650 §39.2.2a).

tn Heb “his ways.” In this context God’s “ways” are the standards of moral conduct he decrees that people should live by.

tn The cohortative with vav (ו) after the prefixed verb form indicates the ultimate purpose/goal of their action.

tn Heb “walk in his ways.”

tn Heb “for out of Zion will go instruction.”

tn Heb “the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”

tc The Hebrew text has בַּחוּרִים (bakhurim, “young men”), but the text should be emended to בְּהוֹרִים (bÿhorim, “in holes”).

tn Heb “and made to be hidden”; NAB, NASB, NIV, TEV “hidden away in prisons.”

tn Heb “they became loot and there was no one rescuing, plunder and there was no one saying, ‘Bring back’.”

13 tn Heb “and the former things was causing us to hear?”

19 tn Heb “and every tongue that rises up for judgment with you will prove to be guilty.”

20 tn Heb “this is the inheritance of the servants of the Lord, and their vindication from me.”

25 tn Or “in the land” (NIV, NCV, NRSV). The same phrase occurs again later in this verse, with the same options.

26 tn Heb “will pronounce a blessing by the God of truth.”

27 tn Heb “will take an oath by the God of truth.”

28 tn Heb “for the former distresses will be forgotten, and they will be hidden from my eyes.”
