Isaiah 42:5

42:5 This is what the true God, the Lord, says –

the one who created the sky and stretched it out,

the one who fashioned the earth and everything that lives on it,

the one who gives breath to the people on it,

and life to those who live on it:

Isaiah 36:12

36:12 But the chief adviser said, “My master did not send me to speak these words only to your master and to you. His message is also for the men who sit on the wall, for they will eat their own excrement and drink their own urine along with you!”

tn Heb “the God.” The definite article here indicates distinctiveness or uniqueness.

tn Heb “and its offspring” (so NASB); NIV “all that comes out of it.”

tn Heb “and spirit [i.e., “breath”] to the ones walking in it” (NAB, NASB, and NRSV all similar).

tn Heb “To your master and to you did my master send me to speak these words?” The rhetorical question expects a negative answer.

tn Heb “[Is it] not [also] to the men…?” The rhetorical question expects the answer, “Yes, it is.”
