Isaiah 48:18

48:18 If only you had obeyed my commandments,

prosperity would have flowed to you like a river,

deliverance would have come to you like the waves of the sea.

Isaiah 59:19

59:19 In the west, people respect the Lord’s reputation;

in the east they recognize his splendor.

For he comes like a rushing stream

driven on by wind sent from the Lord.

Isaiah 66:12

66:12 For this is what the Lord says:

“Look, I am ready to extend to her prosperity that will flow like a river,

the riches of nations will flow into her like a stream that floods its banks.

You will nurse from her breast 10  and be carried at her side;

you will play on her knees.

tn Heb “paid attention to” (so NASB, NIV, NRSV); TEV “had listened to.”

tn Heb “like a river your peace would have been.” שָׁלוֹם (shalom) probably refers here to the peace and prosperity which God promised in return for obedience to the covenant.

tn Heb “and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.” צְדָקָה (tsÿdaqah) probably refers here to divine deliverance from enemies. See v. 19.

tc Heb “fear.” A few medieval Hebrew mss read “see.”

tn Heb “and they fear from the west the name of the Lord.”

tn Heb “and from the rising of the sun his splendor.”

tn Heb “narrow”; NAB, NIV, NRSV “pent-up.”

tn Heb “the wind of the Lord drives it on.” The term רוּחַ (ruakh) could be translated “breath” here (see 30:28).

tn Heb “Look, I am ready to extend to her like a river prosperity [or “peace”], and like an overflowing stream, the riches of nations.”

tn The words “from her breast” are supplied in the translation for clarification (see v. 11).
