5:25 So the Lord is furious 1 with his people;
he lifts 2 his hand and strikes them.
The mountains shake,
and corpses lie like manure 3 in the middle of the streets.
Despite all this, his anger does not subside,
and his hand is ready to strike again. 4
26:21 For look, the Lord is coming out of the place where he lives, 6
to punish the sin of those who live on the earth.
The earth will display the blood shed on it;
it will no longer cover up its slain. 7
1 tn Heb “the anger of the Lord rages.”
2 tn Or “extends”; KJV, ASV “he hath stretched forth.”
3 tn Or “garbage” (NCV, CEV, NLT); NAB, NASB, NIV “refuse.”
4 tn Heb “in all this his anger is not turned, and still his hand is outstretched.”
5 tn Heb “and the land of Judah will become [a source of] shame to Egypt, everyone to whom one mentions it [i.e., the land of Judah] will fear because of the plan of the Lord who commands armies [traditionally, the Lord of hosts] which he is planning against him.”
9 tn Heb “out of his place” (so KJV, ASV).
10 sn This implies that rampant bloodshed is one of the reasons for divine judgment. See the note at 24:5.
