Judges 2:10

2:10 That entire generation passed away; ¹  a new generation grew up ²  that had not personally experienced the Lord’s presence or seen what he had done for Israel. ³ 

Judges 9:49

9:49 So each of his men also cut off a branch and followed Abimelech. They put the branches ⁴  against the stronghold and set fire to it. ⁵  All the people ⁶  of the Tower of Shechem died – about a thousand men and women.

³ tn Heb “that did not know the Lord or the work which he had done for Israel.” The expressions “personally experienced” and “seen” are interpretive.

⁵ tn Heb “they kindled over them the stronghold with fire.”

⁶ tn Or “men,” but the word seems to have a more general sense here, as the conclusion to the sentence suggests.
