Jeremiah 30:14

30:14 All your allies have abandoned you.

They no longer have any concern for you.

For I have attacked you like an enemy would.

I have chastened you cruelly.

For your wickedness is so great

and your sin is so much.

Isaiah 13:18

13:18 Their arrows will cut young men to ribbons;

they have no compassion on a person’s offspring,

they will not look with pity on children.

Isaiah 19:4

19:4 I will hand Egypt over to a harsh master;

a powerful king will rule over them,”

says the sovereign master, the Lord who commands armies.

tn Heb “forgotten you.”

tn Heb “attacked you like…with the chastening of a cruel one because of the greatness of your iniquity [and because] your sins are many.” The sentence has been broken down to conform to contemporary English style and better poetic scansion.

tn Heb “and bows cut to bits young men.” “Bows” stands by metonymy for arrows.

tn Heb “the fruit of the womb.”

tn Heb “their eye does not.” Here “eye” is a metonymy for the whole person.

tn The Hebrew term translated “sovereign master” here is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).
