Jeremiah 34:13

34:13 “The Lord God of Israel has a message for you. ¹  ‘I made a covenant with your ancestors ²  when I brought them out of Egypt where they had been slaves. ³  It stipulated, ⁴ 

Jeremiah 40:3

40:3 Now he has brought it about. The Lord has done just as he threatened to do. This disaster has happened because you people sinned against the Lord and did not obey him. ⁵ 

Jeremiah 44:2

44:2 “The Lord God of Israel who rules over all ⁶  says, ‘You have seen all the disaster I brought on Jerusalem ⁷  and all the towns of Judah. Indeed, they now lie in ruins and are deserted. ⁸

² tn Heb “fathers” (also in vv. 14, 15).

⁴ tn Heb “made a covenant, saying.” This was only one of several stipulations of the covenant. The form used here has been chosen as an indirect way of relating the specific stipulation that is being focused upon to the general covenant that is referred to in v. 13.

⁵ tn Heb “Because you [masc. pl.] sinned against the Lord and did not hearken to his voice [a common idiom for “obey him”], this thing has happened to you [masc. pl.].”
