Jeremiah 48:44

48:44 Anyone who flees at the sound of terror

will fall into a pit.

Anyone who climbs out of the pit

will be caught in a trap.

For the time is coming

when I will punish the people of Moab.

I, the Lord, affirm it!

Jeremiah 52:12

52:12 On the tenth day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the royal guard who served the king of Babylon, arrived in Jerusalem.

sn Jer 48:43-44a are in the main the same as Isa 24:17-18 which shows that the judgment was somewhat proverbial. For a very similar kind of argumentation see Amos 5:19; judgment is unavoidable.

tn Heb “For I will bring upon her, even upon Moab, the year of her punishment.”

tn Heb “Oracle of the Lord.”

tn The parallel account in 2 Kgs 25:8 has “seventh.”

sn The tenth day of the month would have been August 17, 586 b.c. in modern reckoning.

tn For the meaning of this phrase see BDB 371 s.v. טַבָּח 2 and compare the usage in Gen 39:1.

tn Heb “stood before.”
