Jeremiah 5:21

5:21 Tell them: ‘Hear this,

you foolish people who have no understanding,

who have eyes but do not discern,

who have ears but do not perceive:

John 3:19-20

3:19 Now this is the basis for judging: that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. 3:20 For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed.

Acts 3:19

3:19 Therefore repent and turn back so that your sins may be wiped out,

Acts 28:27

28:27 For the heart of this people has become dull,

and their ears are hard of hearing,

and they have closed their eyes,

so that they would not see with their eyes

and hear with their ears

and understand with their heart

and turn, and I would heal them.”’

tn Heb “they have eyes but they do not see, they have ears but they do not hear.”

tn Or “this is the reason for God judging,” or “this is how judgment works.”

tn Grk “and men,” but in a generic sense, referring to people of both genders (as “everyone” in v. 20 makes clear).

tn Or “insensitive.”

tn Grk “they hear heavily with their ears” (an idiom for slow comprehension).

sn Note how the failure to respond to the message of the gospel is seen as a failure to turn.

sn A quotation from Isa 6:9-10.
