John 11:12-13

11:12 Then the disciples replied, 1  “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.” 11:13 (Now Jesus had been talking about 2  his death, but they 3  thought he had been talking about real sleep.) 4 

1 tn Grk “Then the disciples said to him.”

2 tn Or “speaking about.”

3 tn Grk “these.”

4 tn Grk “the sleep of slumber”; this is a redundant expression to emphasize physical sleep as opposed to death.
